We picked up our equipment from the hatch the day before filming, we used a Canon xc15. We were driven to Alresford from Ropley by a Mid-Hants volunteer who was making sure we were safe and escorted us around the railway. Here, we met with Phil Griffin who we interviewed mainly, he answered the questions I have written in my previous post. He introduced himself, his role and the importance of what he does for our A-roll. He was later joined by Phil Moore who we filmed undertaking some work that was earlier described for us to use as B-roll. Most of our B-roll footage consisted of the volunteers working and the general station such as steam from a train and the tracks. As well as this, we filmed some diegetic noise to break up the A-roll audio to layer over the B-roll.
One issue we came across was exposure. Unfortunately, although we had booked a monitor to attach to the camera, we were not provided one as there was an issue with the booking. This caused difficulty as it was a cloudy but bright day and majorly of our filming was outside as that was were the volunteers worked. However, as we have been studying colour correction in editing and post production, we may be able to rectify this.
Overall, our filming day went well as the two Phil’s were compliant and made their interview questions engaging and interesting and we also managed to capture a variety of footage.
